Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) Tank Inspection

Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) is an advanced magnetic method of nondestructive testing used for tank inspection. At areas where there is corrosion or missing metal, the magnetic field "leaks" from the steel.

In an MFL tool, a magnetic detector is placed between the poles of the magnet to detect the leakage field. Analysts interpret the chart recording of the leakage field to identify damaged areas and hopefully to estimate the depth of metal loss.

Team employs both MFL 2000 and Floormap VS2i scanners to inspect tanks.

MFL2000

The MFL 2000 is a high speed, motorized magnetic flux leakage scanner capable of inspecting approximately 8000 square feet per shift. The ergonomic design coupled with the latest magnetic technology have resulted in an easy to operate, accurate, reliable and cost effective inspection tool.

The motorized scanner has an auto-stop system that ensures any defect above the operator adjustable threshold is identified. All controls are situated in a recess at the top of the unit allowing easy viewing and operation whilst being protected against accidental adjustment.

Any signal above the operator controllable threshold, is displayed as both a visual and audible alarm. It’s low profile and extendable handle allow scanning in otherwise inaccessible areas of storage tanks such as the shell to annular area and under pipe work or heater coils.

Features and Benefits
  • High Speed, Cost Effective Inspection
  • Automatic Defect Detection System
  • Latest Generation Permanent Magnet Technology
  • Separate Battery Operated Electronic Module
  • Easy to Use, Cost-Effective Inspection Tool

FloormapVS2i

Team uses the latest version of the best selling MFL floor scanner to deliver significant improvements in terms of defect positioning, electronic data processing and software manipulation. The VS2i contains a new high-specification encoder system which is electronically calibrated to each individual scanner eliminating errors caused by component tolerances. The FloormapVS2i gives accuracy to within 3 mm on an 8 meter track length and providing it is calibrated on an annual basis will not be effected by normal wear and tear.

Features
  • Automatic CAD Drawing
  • Patch Plate Design Feature
  • Ruggedised Touch Screen Computer
  • Real Time Data Acquisition and Analysis
  • Hard Copy and Electronic Report Functions
  • Combined Defect Profiling and Amplitude Analysis
  • Add Data from Visual, UT, Vac Box and MPI Inspection

Handscan System

The Handscan system is designed to compliment the MFL 2000 and FloormapVS2i floor scanners. The latest generation of permanent magnets allows localized magnetic saturation of the floor area under test. As the scanner is moved across the test area signals from the corrosion are detailed by the hall effect sensors.
