Hot Tap Line Intervention

Providing Safe, Reliable, and Effective Hot Taps On Live Piping

Hot tapping provides a safe, reliable, and effective means to create a branch connection on ”live” piping and pressure vessels without the interruption of service in that section of pipe or vessel. This allows clients to maintain production and avoid costly outages while enhancing their facility production capacity. While hot taps are frequently used as a tie-in point for new piping, they are also performed as a means to deploy inline instrumentation such as thermowells and panametric flow meters. Completing a hot tap is also the first step in performing a line stop.

TEAM’s Hot Tapping Capabilities:

  • Sizes from ½” – 84”
  • Operating Pressures from vacuum – 4300 psi
  • Operating Temperatures from -20° F to 1350° F
  • Flow in excess of 45 FPS
  • Virtually any pipe material

TEAM’s hot tap procedures are methodical, detailed, and specific to the task at hand. Our procedures are always onsite with highly trained and certified technicians who are performing the work. Due to the inherent risk of performing hot tap work, TEAM technicians perform a thorough review with a TEAM service line specialist prior to beginning any hot tap or line stop project. Once the review is complete and all hazards have been identified, a safe and successful execution is enabled to follow.

Delivering Safe and Effective Line Stopping

Line Stopping is a means of isolating a piping system that has no other means of isolation. Line Stopping is used to isolate piping systems that are in need of emergency repairs, alterations, or relocations. No matter what the need is, performing a line stop allows clients to successfully do so without shutdown or loss of service to the end users. Line stops can be used in conjunction with bypass lines in order to allow for a continual flow of product around the isolated section of piping.

TEAM’s Line Stop Capabilities:

  • Sizes from 3” – 48”
  • Operating Pressures up to 1480 psi
  • Operating temperature up to 650° F
  • Size-on-size internal bypass available

TEAM’s line-stopping technology offers unique solutions for your most challenging projects. With decades of experience working on pressurized systems, TEAM’s line isolation services are positioned to maximize your system’s uptime while reducing downtime.

Double Block and Bleed Line Intervention

TEAM’s decades of experience have resulted in the company delivering numerous innovations for providing inline piping isolation to the midstream, petrochemical, and refining industries. TEAM’s most recent line isolation product, SmartStop™, is the next evolution in safe hot tapping and line stopping technologies. Furthering the tradition of innovation and service leadership, SmartStop™ provides a simplified, reliable, and proven double block and bleed line isolation that clients can depend on.

Unlike conventional line intervention systems, SmartStop™ deploys a double block and bleed line isolation through a single hot tap/line stop fitting. With no need for additional reinforcement or spacing, SmartStop™ can be deployed through any standard fitting as a re-entry or new tie-in. The SmartStop™ features an integrated bleed port that vents the interspace between the primary and secondary seals, eliminating the need for performing additional hot taps to validate the integrity of each seal prior to the commencement of breaking downstream containment. Additionally, the integrated bleed port allows for the safe monitoring of zero energy throughout the duration of the isolation while eliminating the risk of personnel exposure. Suited for a wide variety of liquid and gas products, TEAM’s SmartStop™ is ANSI 900#, fully rated – capable of sealing pressures up to 2220 psig. Unlike other double block and bleed isolation tools, the SmartStop™ utilizes self-energized seals that eliminate the need of activation through pressure differential or complex hydraulic systems to create positive isolation.

High-Temperature Line Stops

High-temperature line stops allow for the safe maintenance and repair of ultra-high pressure and high temperature piping systems. These line stops are utilized as specialized applications when pressures and/or temperatures exceed standard line stopping limitations. Permanent high-temperature line stops are also available to provide long term isolation of a piping system without leaving line stop equipment on the line.

TEAM’s High-Temperature Line Stop Capabilities:

  • Operating Pressure up to 2600 psi
  • Operating Temperature up to 1200° F
  • Flow up to 5 FPS

Inflatable Line Stops

Inflatable line stops are a line stop method that utilizes an engineered inflatable device (bag) to provide pressure/vapor isolation of an active piping system. Since its inception in 1997, inflatable line stops have become an extremely viable and globally used method of isolation. This application of line isolation is most reliable when having to overcome issues of piping that are out of round or when inside surface conditions of the pipe prevent a standard line stop from generating a workable seal. The inflatable line stop is deployed through a smaller size hole than other line isolation applications, negating the need for a size-on-size fitting.

TEAM’s Inflatable Line Stop Capabilities:

  • Sizes from 1” – 132”
  • Operating pressure up to 150 psi
  • Operating temperature up to 400°F
  • Multiple configurations upon request

Cryogenic Freeze Stop

A cryogenic freeze stop is a cost effective technique for solidifying the liquid in a pipe to form a pressure resistant plug so project or maintenance work can be performed without shutting down the system. First commercially performed in the early 1950s, TEAM has successfully performed freeze stops on water, hydrocarbons, acids, bases, and salt solutions. With no hot tapping needed to deploy the isolation, cryogenic freezing is a safe, non-invasive isolation that our clients can depend on.

TEAM’s Freeze Stop Capabilities:

  • Sizes from ½” – 40”
  • Operating pressure up to 2500 psi
  • Operating temperatures up to 120°F
  • Unlimited hold time
